L&D and Education
Projects I produced, directed or worked on recently (2020) won Learning and Development awards from the International E-Learning Association and the Brandon Hall Group.
At the close of my two years of service in the Peace Corps, the university I taught at (Rostov State University, now known as Southern Federated University) granted me an honorary doctorate (доктор гость) degree.
This is my dog Petey. I gave him part of my hotdog the other day and he immediately voted me “Koolest Hooman” (2020).
Film + Multimedia
The Kinect NatGeo TV project won the new media Panda Award at the prestigious Wildscreen film festival (2012). I keep telling my kids all about it, but they’re like “yeah, yeah, Dad. It’s the Golden Globes for animal films, right?”
“Live Long, Ping Pong,” a short documentary I wrote and directed about competitive seniors table tennis was selected for the Best of Ohio short film festival at the Wexner Center for the Arts at Ohio State University (2014).
A 2013 film I produced for the Columbus 48-hour Film Project won the Best Visual Effects award.
Writing
I only worked in print journalism for a few years, but I won two first place awards from the Texas AP Managing Editors for sportswriting and sports column writing (1998).
I won Society for Professional Journalism award for feature writing for “Bowling at 4 am,” a story about Columbus’ 24-hour bowling center. It ran in Columbus Alive, our local arts paper (2007).
I was the William Hicock Fellowship winner for Fiction Writing at Kansas State University in 1993. Good times.
